Synopsis: A film by Ajay Devgan

"Oh, how we danced on the night we were wedWe vowed our true love though a word wasn’t saidThe world was in bloom, there were stars in the skiesExcept for the few that were there in your eyes. The night seemed to fade into blossoming dawnThe sun shone anew but the dance lingered onCould we but relive that sweet moment sublimeWe’d find that our love is unaltered by time."

    – lyrics to "The Anniversary Waltz," composed by Dublin/Frankl

The first time Ajay saw Pia, she served him drinks. She affected him more than the alcohol, and he found true love. He was a leading psychiatrist, but she messed up his mind.

The first time Pia saw Ajay, he had too much to drink. She watched him make a fool of himself, and was relieved when he passed out. She was a woman who followed her heart, but despite his claims of true love, she had made up her mind.

Thus began the story of Ajay and Pia.

A love story, that begins at sea. Ajay is on a cruise with his friends Nikhil and Reena, unhappily married, and Vicky and Natasha, happily unmarried. Ajay is having a wonderful time dealing with martial strife, lots of bad language and huge hangovers, when he finds Pia, and time stands still.

After a disastrous first meeting, Ajay tries everything to woo her. He wants her, by hook, crook or even her little private notebook. She’s not an easy catch at all, but finally, by sheer perseverance, he dances his way into her heart.

Ajay and Pia develop a strong and special bond. In each other, they find an anchor. But the tide goes against them. Weighted down by lies and deceit, their boat is rocked, and their relationship drowns.

But even oceans cannot keep true love apart. Against better sense, Ajay waits for Pia. In Pia’s case, better case prevails, and she comes back to him. With no doubt in their minds about the way they feel for each other, they rush into marriage, despite the advice and failing relationships of their friends.

Happy marriages begin when we marry the ones we love, and they blossom when we love the ones we marry. And Ajay Pia, love each other dearly, and their marriage flourishes, setting an example for their friends.

But no marriages can be complete without problems, and Ajay and Pia have also have to face hurdles, some of which seem insurmountable. We are taught in school how to do sums, how to read and write, and how to conduct scientific experiments, but what do we really know about the greatest social experiment of all, namely our ability to keep the love alive in our marriage, especially in the face of crises?

But even as things get much worse, and sometimes unsolvable, Ajay and Pia don’t give up. They realize that marriage is not a ritual or an end. It is a long, intricate, intimate dance together and nothing matters more than your own sense of balance and your choice of partner. And Ajay and Pia are used to dancing together.

So they battle all odds, and dance, and sometimes they fall. But every time they fall, they fall in love. And that’s what a successful marriage requires. Falling in love many times, always with the same person.

This is the special love story of Ajay and Pia. There may be no monuments dedicated to them and perhaps their names will soon be forgotten. But in one respect they succeed as gloriously as anyone who’s ever lived: They’ve loved each other with all their heart and soul; and in life and marriage, this has always been enough.

There is not a long list of actors who also became successfuldirectors. But first Aamir Khan successfully proved it and now AjayDevgan also shows his sparks of direction.

His directorial debut is a sensitive and emotional love story of amarried couple. The real life pair Ajay & Kajol both fit to their rolesas a 'T'. A special worthy praise is deserved by Kajol for her lovableact and Ajay for choosing a difficult subject.

In simple words, U Me Aur Hum is not a family drama, it is not a filmwith bubbly valentine kind of love. But its intense, emotional andmature in content. Though it lacks in some departments but the overallimpact at the end of the movie is quite touchy.

The first half starts with influences of "An Affair To Remember" and"The Notebook". But after the marriage of the lead actors, the filmjust moves on to a different unexpected platform. The story is aboutthe wife suffering with Alzheimer disease and how the family andfriends around, face this truth with love and courage.

No doubt a difficult subject to choose for a directorial debut. Theonly problem is that the viewers expected a good enjoyable love storywith many lighter moments to share. But the film is more of a slow, heavy and mature love story. Still Ajay Devgan, the director, managesto extract brilliant performances and also visualizes some memorablescenes which can make your eyes wet. Specially the last hour of thefilm. It has some very emotional scenes to cherish.

The most lacking department of the movie is the Music. If only it hadsome soothing and melodious love songs, the impact would have been 10times better. There is no slow & soft love song with meaningful lyricswhich was a must according to the demand of the script as I see it. Maybe Ajay avoided that deliberately. Vishal Bhardwaj misses the trainthis time.

Performance wise Kajol is superlative and majestic in all hercharacters. As a smart waitress, as a girl ready to fall in love, as alover, as a wife and as a mother. She slips into all shades of hercharacter with such an ease and elegance. Unarguably one of her bestperformances till date. Ajay is soft and has underplayed his character, but he emotes well as a worried and caring husband. His performance inthe second half is much better and impressive. Another gem of aperformance is by Divya Dutta. She excels in her small role and makesher presence felt. The scenes where all the friends are together arewell written and executed.

It can be said that after "Taare Zameen Par" this is the second movieon the theme of a disease and how the family copes with it. But thereshould be no comparison drawn between the two. "U Me Aur Hum" is morefor the mature audiences and it may be treated as "Heavy" by theyounger generation.

But the movie has the truth of life in it. Anybody can face this, as weall live in an uncertain life. And "U ME Aur Hum" teaches how to livelife with love even when the times are real tough.

Go for it if you love intense drama and feel that Love is the way tolive Life. (I really wish it had better music)

I was very disappointed by Raju Chacha (which was produced by AjayDevgan) and I was hoping U ME AUR HUM will not go the same way.

And believe me I ended up enjoying the movie. Though I am not yet surewhether this a rip-off of some Hollywood movie, but was impressed withthe cute love story, refreshing camera work, eye-catching colors, funnyand enjoyable dialouges, good music (though it could have done withless songs) and last very very good acting by Ajay and Kajol.

After Amir Khan, its Ajay Devgan's turn to impress.

      Strongly Recommended!!!

Ajay Devgan's U, Me Aur Hum is an imperfect film. It will never betaught in a film school. Intellectually, you can make a laundry list ofthe flaws in the film. Cynics will like to point out the similaritiesbetween this and some Hollywood films like The Notebook, Iris and AwayFrom Her – all films involving Alzheimer's and memory loss.

There are some who have even pointed out that Devgan should have done ascene-by-scene copy instead of a thematic one. I wish you had amagnetic cynic-o-meter at the theaters for these cynics so they wouldnot be allowed to watch the film.

U, Me Aur Hum is the realization of Devgan's belief in his film and hisconviction in telling a story his way. It is an emotional film and inthat sense a very good film. It works because the drama is genuine andAjay and Kajole are seasoned performers who have great chemistry.

There are some who say that Ajay and Kajole have gotten old. Thosepeople are not only cynical but superficial as well. Such people shouldperhaps invest their money in a copy of Maxim or FHM instead of thisfilm.

To the passionate independent filmmaker U, Me Aur Hum would be veryinspiring. Devgan has put everything into a story he believed and thenput a team of people together who may or may not be the who's who inBollywood, but who are nevertheless talented. These people haveobviously bought into Devgan's vision and what has translated on screenis very genuine, very from-the-heart and very moving.

Co-writer Robin Bhatt, co-producer Kumar Mangat, cinematographer AseemBajaj, composer Vishal Bharadwaj, supporting cast Sachin Khedekar,Divya Dutta and gang are all to be applauded for their efforts. Specialmention to new lyricist Munna Dhiman – seems like another Prasoon Joshiin the making.

Aamir Khan and Ajay Devgan – apart from being actor-director-producers- have something else in common: they have always been original intheir thinking and tread their own path. They are superstars aspiringto be and remain artists. The coming years in Bollywood are going to bevery exciting. The size of the film will not be based on budget or starpower, but ideas and heart. Ajay Devgan will also have his part to playin these new 'big' films.

I must say I have been a fan of Kajol for years but I only recentlyhave been a fan of Ajay's. This guy is awesome as a actor and am sorryto have found him so late. I am amazed by some of his pastperformances. Getting back to the movie.

I loved this movie. It is excellent. One of the best Bollywood moviesthat I have seen in long time. I am dying to get the DVD. Finally amature Bollywood movie with a good plot and good acting and nicecinematography. I was not bored at all through out the movie.

First of all it seems a lot shorter than the other Bollywood movies Ihave seen. It's not 5 hrs but 2 1/2 hrs.

The Ajay and Kajol jodi is awesome together. I know it been a long timesince this Jodi has worked but they are beautiful with each other. iwould classify in the league of SRK and Kajol and Aamir and Kajol. Theylook real good like they belong to each other. The chemistry is smokinghot. You can see that there is a lot of love and comfort between themand finally it shows on scene.

Watch this movie for the performances, the direction and the story. Itis hard to believe that it is Devgan's first direction. Ajay Devgan isreally good at making romantic movies although I was surprised becauseI don't think of him in romantic roles. If this is his first directionthan he is very gifted. It is beautifully shot. This movie haseverything.

Both AD and Kajol truly deserve all the awards including the nationalaward for their acting. Kajol has never looked more beautiful. Kajol isthe only one of the current Bollywood actress that could play thisrole. She really gets in the skin of characters that she plays. Ajayalso was truly amazing in his role. This guys really has the midastouch. These two are Bollywood's best actors by far. Ajay is as good asAamir and maybe better. I think this guys is good at any role he plays.Although he is not the typical pretty boy, he is really attractive andyou fall in love with his charm.

The story is excellent. There were several memoriable scenes that youwere left with. It is both a powerful and gripping. The first half wasfunny and entertaining. The second half is when the movies really madeit for me. I think what works is Ajay's intention that people leavewith the right message. I appreciate what he has done. You leavingcontemplating life and the issues that surround you. You will need lotsof tissues in the second half. I think that if you are married or in arelationship you will appreciate this movie a lot more than if you aresingle. Finally a movie that brings families together than separatingthem.

I thought the music was very nice and it goes very well with thescenes. I was singing the theme song for days. The costumes were alsovery nice. I want to get my hands on some of them. I was also surprisedby the humor in the first half.

My only objections is that it was not shot in the beautiful Europeantowns like other Bollywood movies and the dancing limited. I guess Ishould expect the dancing limitation since the Devgan doesn't havingthe great dancer reputation.

If you have to catch one movie this year it is U ME AUR HUM.. Itdeserves that national award and should sweep the all awards. It isHollywood caliber.

My rating is excellent. Must watch..You will not be disappointed.

From the way this movie began, I had no idea where it was heading. There was a certain silliness in the opening, but its really a bait andswitch situation. In fact, for some time, you are really baffled bywhat is going on. Ajay is telling a story, and from the way the storyis visualized, you have a lot of reason to assume he is telling his ownstory, even though he doesn't present it that way. Until you getthrough most of the way into the story, you have no choice but tofollow the story as if it is a parable or something.

Then comes the big crunch, the rainy scene where the whole moodcompletely changes. But still the story-teller keeps his hole card outof sight.

When the true nature of what is going on becomes evident, you realizethe story is one of the most frightening anyone can imagine, and onlythen do you really appreciate the quality of the acting.

So, I think I've seen Ajay Devgan's best movies. And I'm pretty sureI've seen Kajol at her best. And I've liked every movie since theirmarriage, whether comical or serious, where they played the lead roles. But I'm pretty convinced this is, at least, Ajay's best. And somewherenear Kajol's best. I hope one or both gets at least a nomination innext year's award round.

U me aur hum is a classic in my eyes. The film did average businesscommercially. But I think 90% of whoever has seen the film loved thefilm out and out. U me aur hum, sure it has something that the Notebookalso has. The film is about alzheimer's in love. That CERTAINLY Doesn'tMEAN THAT "U ME AUR HUM" IS A REMAKE OF THE NOTEBOOK!!

Everything is optimal in this movie, be it direction-wise,performance-wise, art-wise, song-wise, casting-wise! I always thoughtAjay Devgan is very very underrated. Hopefully this movie will changehis careerline! Gosh what a storyteller, the way he pours emotions inhis characters, the way he uses the camera, the way he has chosen thelocations. Everything exceeds!

U me aur hum is Ajay's finest work as an actor, and of course a VERYpowerful debut as a director. Kajol is perfect! She shares 1000%awesome chemistry with Ajay. Both her and Ajays performances sometimesmake your eyes water.

Songs are excellent! Be it Dil Dhakda, Jee le, Phatte, Saaiyaan or theU me aur hum tracks. Beautiful.

This film is truly a masterpiece! Way to go ajay!

1).Superb cinematography2).fantastic graphics3).Gorgeous Kajol 4).Awesome performances by all cast 5). Nice title track. If u sum allthese what will u get?..U, ME aur HUM. I have to admit that it takesguts to choose such a sensitive subject for ur first directorialventure bt HATS OFF TO AJAY DEVGAN for bring us "old wine in newbottle". This movie is SOooo Romantic that u wil surely going to missur someone special so if he/she is not with you. I wil not reveal it'sstoryline but also is not new subject but the presentation or the wayin which the story told is what it's strong point. "a must see" with ursomeone special..8/10

What a movie Ajay has made!! Absolutely great marvelous…… It wasWithout any doubt an amazing job fulfilled by him just like his fellowAmir khan, both jumped in the field of direction and gave the industry aNew hope.although it is a remake of Hollywood movie THE NOTEBOOK.Butsuch a great story deserves to be in bollywood not only in bollywood iwould say in each and every film making industry because love remainslove everywhere, everything else changes.

As i realized this is a unique kind of movie based on love,no villainsNo more family problems bla bla bla……… This movie just circlesAround the relationship between a husband and his wife ,theRelationship which started from love and ended with love, love was theThing which kept them strong even in worse situations.

I would like to say this movie is a good tool for bringing back yourGirlfriend if she is going away,a rather easy method to add a spark toYour diminishing love life.only thing you have to do is you have toTake her to the theater anyhow….and then i am sure she will be yours soHurry this offer is valid for a limited period.

Ajay Devgan post ZAKHM esp is known as a great actor he has directedportions of flop MAJOR SAAB when Tinnu Anand was sick those days sothat gave him kinda experience

In this film he tries an emotional subject and handles it quite wellbut there are problems as well He copies the style of narrative fromTHE NOTEBOOK and brings across a nice emotional film

The first half is damn boring especially the characters of his friendsand also the romance is not too catchy barring here and there Thedrunken scenes are damn stupid

Ajay revealing the truth is well handled and then we move on Theinterval point brings a twist and we are hooked But looks like Ajayhasn't done full research or ignored the real problems faced by theperson having the sickness

There are forced songs in second half like the Saiyan song and also theentire climax looks too sudden and sort of unbelievable But theemotional breakdown drunken act is brilliantly directed and acted byAjay even the scene in the hospital

Direction by Ajay Devgan is good in parts and bad in some Music isokay, the title song stands out and also JEE LE Camera-work is bad, especially in scenes on the ship where Ajay- Kajol are given damn toofunny close ups Editing too is jerky, whatz with the small guy makingfaces?

Ajay Devgan starts off looking too skinny, amateurish in the comic actwhich gets boring and then he gets better and handles the emotionalpart very well thankfully he is in form because post Omkara he pulleddown his histrionics and did crap films and acts Kajol excelsespecially in the scenes showing her sickness though she shreiks badlyat times Amongst rest Sachin khedekar is okay Divya Dutta shouts toomuch, the rest are bad especially Isha and that cousin of Akshaye
