Known Trivia

  • Priyanka Chopra and Shahid Kapoor fell off a bike while shooting for Kaminey. The accident took place in Pune late Thursday (21st August 2008) while a scene that required Priyanka to ride a bike with Shahid on the back seat was being shot. The two were riding the bike on a slope that was slightly muddy when the two-wheeler skidded and the two fell off. And to make matter worse, the bike fell on top of them.
  • While shooting for this movie, Priyanka Chopra travelled in a local train from Goregaon to Churchgate to attend the award ceremony (at NCPA, Nariman Point) which was scheduled post the shoot. Since Priyanka was aware of Mumbai’s traffic jam, she preferred travelling by train and wore a “burkha” to hide her identity. The organisers of the awards ceremony sent a car to pick her up from the Churchgate station.
  • Priyanka Chopra played this extremely vocal Maharashtrian girl who believed in making herself heard and hence Vishal Bhardwaj made sure her voice was heard far and wide, due to which Priyanka had much trouble while shooting as Vishal Bhardwaj had been making her scream her lungs off for the film.
  • This movie showcases Amole Gupte as an actor after a long time. He has acted small roles in many movies like Mirch Masala, Holi, etc. He is also famous for his paintings showcased in opening credits of ‘Hazaar Chaurasi Ki Maa’. Recently, he wrote the screenplay & was the Creative Director for Like Stars on Earth
  • Shahid Kapoor worked out for six months and took lessons in stammering from an ENT specialist to fit into his roles in the film.
  • For the choreography of the song sequence “Dhan-Te-Nan” in the film, the actors were briefed to “just dance with the song but not to do any (dance) steps in it”
  • The kissing scene between Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra was originally not in the script, but the director decided to add it because he thought the movie was starting to look outdated and boring, along with the fact that Guddu’s character mostly revolves around the fact that Sweety was pregnant.
  • Priyanka Chopra did not want to do the kiss in the film. So she had the director shoot the entire scene without the kiss until she could make up her mind. However Shahid Kapoor was a gentleman about it and said that he’d only do it if she felt comfortable, so she finally agreed.

Story: Guddu and Charlie are identical twins born and raised in the slums of Mumbai. They dream of leaving the squalor behind and moving into a life of prosperity and dignity. Though they look alike, the two are as different as chalk and cheese. One lisps, the other stammers. One is an honest, diligent social worker while the other hedges bets at a racecourse. The brothers want nothing to do with each other. But when Charlie gets mixed up in a deadly get-rich-quick scheme and Guddu realizes that the love of his life has unwittingly put a price on his head, their lives begin to collide. They find themselves facing rogue politicians, drug dealers and crooked cops. As they uncover a sinister plot laid out by the 'political-police-underworld' nexus, their stories finally converge to a point when they realize they only have each other.Written by UTV Communications

Synopsis: Guddu and Charlie are brothers, born and raised in Dharavi, the world’s largest slum dwelling in the heart of the megalopolis, Mumbai. They also happen to be identical twins, in early twenties, hoping to leave the squalor behind and move into a life of prosperity and dignity. But the similarity ends here.

Guddu (Shahid Kapoor) works as a trainee in a small NGO firm in the city. He hopes to climb up to the top of the corporate ladder. He wants to be a bona fide member of the burgeoning Indian middle class. His career has only just begun though and the road to bourgeoisie is both long and arduous. Yet Guddu is at it. He is honest, diligent and careful.

Charlie (Shahid Kapoor) makes a living hedging bets at the race course. He moves around the plush hordes of the rich and famous at the races. For him this is just a way to make quick money and he dreams of becoming a legitimate bookie one day. Charlie is street smart, wily and brave and lives only for himself.

The brothers don’t like each other. They believe they have nothing in common, not even their speech defect. While Guddu stammers, especially when he is nervous, Charlie has a lisp. They have built their lives so that their paths don’t ever cross. They believe it’s only a question of time before they are out of each other’s sight forever.

Charlie is having a bad day at the office. He has practically bet everything he possesses on a coveted derby race. But at the last minute, he is double crossed as the race is fixed in their opponent’s favour. He hunts down the jockey and plans to get even when the rival goons burst in. In the ensuing melee, Charlie and his friends take off with a getaway car, not knowing that the car belongs to a ruthless pair of cops, Lobo and Lele, who run drugs for the beach lord, Tashi. Soon enough, Charlie discovers a stash of coke in the boot of the car. All hell now breaks loose as the cops and the drug mafia are on his case. Charlie has to survive by his wits alone.

Guddu is performing a street theatre act when his newfound girlfriend, Sweety Bhope (Priyanka Chopra) appears on the scene, distraught and announces that she is pregnant. Guddu is shocked at first but realizes quickly that there is no real problem. They can get married right away!

But they can’t. There is a real problem. Sweety reveals her secret. Her brother is Sunil ‘chopper’ Bhope (Amol Gupte), a gangster with political ambitions and a ridiculously dangerous man. And he already knows. Sweety informs Guddu that as they speak, her brother’s men are out for his blood.

The story unfolds as the day progresses. Intercut between the parallel stories of the brothers as they run to protect themselves, their dreams and their love. Until a point where it converges and the brothers meet to realize that they only have each other.

It is only through trust in each other that they can get out of the mess that they haven’t created. They uncover a deadly political-police-underworld nexus. They discover virtues within themselves they thought didn’t exist. And most important of all, they find each other.

Kaminey is one of those gems which is churned out by the the Bollywoodfilm industry maybe once in five years. If it has to be described inone word, I think 'Extraordinary' would be a good one. Nobody woulddisagree with the fact that Shahid Kapoor and Priyanka Chopra have bothestablished themselves as fine actors as they delivered theperformances of their career. Vishal Bhardawaj once again proves why heis counted amongst the elegant filmmakers that India has to offer. Thisfilm will surely help Bollywood break out of the barricades of outdatedfilm making, and shift towards a more contemporary technique ofpleasing audiences. Vishal Bhardawaj himself will agree that Kaminey ishis most outstanding film till date.

Seriously I don't know where to start, a year ago when I knew thatShahid and Priyanka was going to work together I was really excited andthrilled. This film was a phenomenon, Vishal Bhardwaj did it again withthis movie he surely did an impact on everybody. I totally love theconcept of the two twins it was really cliché but in a good way. ShahidKapoor had to play two roles in here Charlie the bad one & Guddu thesweet and innocent one, but like always Vishal did a little twist forus whom I wont say because I'll spoil you people. Shahid's performancewas absolutely stunning he manages to be the dark side perfectly andthe good side sweetly hats off to him. Priyanka Chopra the diva of 2008since her achievement last year this woman is growing-up real fast inthis movie. Her character is Sweety she is an really un-glamed andcarefree college girl she is innocent but not stupid, she is fast butnot hasty she is someone who can be your biggest friend and someone whocan hate you till death, she is someone determined and really frank. Idon't need to say how good her performance was she was so instantaneousThe thing I love about the story is that it doesn't really show thedark sides of the movie that much and people were overreacting becausethe title of the movie was a swear. Like frankly I went to see themovie and I didn't even know why the board of India went literally madand give this movie an "A'' mark. I mean they haven't see KambakkthIshq or what, this movie was the pure definition of vulgarism anyway iam only saying that because, that you people don't judge thismasterpiece only because of its title mean i saw random peoples in thetheatre to went like this movie is going to be bad look at the title, iwas so angry. Anyway i didn't listen those peoples and i had a greattime watching this well made movie the wait was worth it. The songswere really romantic and catchy i was really sad when is listen toPehli Bhar Mohabat this song was probably the best of the whole movie, you want to get entertained Kaminey is the right movie to watch anddon't forget Priyanka Chopra is winning the next Best Actress awardsfor her performance according to me. Now my verdict 10/10 i am going towatch it again for sure.

Well if you thought that the song Dhan Te Nan which you see on variousTV channels is frantic, just wait till you see this pumped-up heavy dutymovie. The film begins with a chase sequence near the local trains ofMumbai. And from then on the pace of the movie never drops as it hurtlestowards an explosive climax where all bets are off about who'll make itand who will not. The basic story revolves around a "Guitar" to whichmany people are connected directly or indirectly. Its a story about thedecisions which we make in our life and what impact they have on us andthe people around us. The movie has a large number of characters butits the beauty of screenplay and the Director that they all becomememorable ones and not just forgettable names. Chief among them isMikhail(Chandan Roy Sanyal) as Charlie's best friend. Amol Gupte ismenacing as the villain. Priyanka Chopra who is riding high these daysonce again shows that she is a very capable actress and not just apretty girl. Shahid Kapoor has always been a good actor in thesimpleton Guddu type roles, but here he literally burns the screen asthe whacko race-bookie Charlie. The tremendous passion which he bringsto screen really keeps the viewers riveted to this scintillating sagaof twin brothers. And finally… THE MAN.VISHAL BHARADWAJ. He literallymakes the film what it is with the best direction and music that i'veseen in any Hindi movie in a long long time. Take a bow Mr. VishalBharadwaj. You have really made a movie which shows how the moviesshould really be made.

I would only say one thing to the viewers.. If they do not accept sucha matured cinema.. Such excellence on screen.. They should probablystop blabbering about movies… Because they know nothing, what amovie, cinema means! They are all just suitable for stupid "Rab Ne BanaDi Jodi's" and etc crap.. GROW UP!! And if you can't.. Please do notcomment on gems like these..

"KAMINEY" is a lifetime experience.. A masterpiece and a fantabulouscreation of Vishal Bhardwaj.. The movie is a TOTAL ROLLER COASTER!! Aride you would regret for the rest of your life if you miss.. From thefirst scene to the last, the movie was a treat to me.. I was so excitedabout this movie, I couldn't resist.. Wondered when the clock wouldturn to10:30 .. And the show begins.. It completely paid off.. In factI enjoyed more than I paid for the ticket, more than my expectationsand more than any bollywood movie of such a genre till now.. The moviedeserves awards in various sections like editing, cinematography, background score, special effects, direction, acting, supportingactors.. It amazed me how disgustingly good the editing was!! TassaduqHussain's Cinematography is another strength of the movie… And mygod!! Vishal Bhardwaj's Screenplay & self-penned dialogues will blowyour head off at times!! Top Notch!!

A concept like Kaminey is extremely difficult to execute on screen..But Vishal Bhardwaj proves that he's a brilliant story-teller.. Bepatient while watching the movie & also attentive, the movie jumps tooquick for Indian viewers who aren't used to with such cinema and moreattached towards the brainless movies these days! The movie standsup-to its hype & even more I should say.. Shahid has no, mark my words,no looking back after this performance.. His path to super-stardomstarts here! Priyanka delivers another class act! She's the bestactress in the industry currently, no other actress even stands close..Shahid, Vishal Bhardwaj & the background score has created a landmarkin the industry for centuries to come in terms of cinematicexcellence..

I cannot agree anymore with Mr. Taran Adarsh when he says "VishalBhardwaj picked up the characters & executed them like Tarantino & GuyRitchie.." You'll totally agree with that!

It is clearly visible how hard the whole crew has worked to attainperfection, because the movie WAS PERFECT in every aspect!! Upcomingdirectors have one of the biggest threats Vishal Bhardwaj in their way,if they at all touch a subject close to this..

Shahid, Priyanka, Chandan Roy Sanyal (Mikhail), Amol Gupte (Bhope) weretruly, truly outstanding!!

I feel short of words to describe this movie.. I seriously cannot waitto watch it again.. Of course I'm going again, but will badly badlywait for the DVD.. Not to forget, the end of the movie was simply —-FANTABULOUS —-

If you truly enjoy cinema, go for KAMINEY.. Else, better wait for SRKor FARAH KHAN's next POPCORN FLICK!! Go for Kaminey for Shahid, forPriyanka, for Vishal Bhardwaj, for the Music & for everything you wantfrom a masterpiece! And next time you end up comparing why do Bollywoodstandards do not reach Hollywood, stay quite! You don't deserve a word!

I love dark movies.. The environment, the sets, the cinematography insuch movies.. Really intrigue me a lot.. Kaminey had that thing fromthe first till the last frame.. I cannot stop my fingers from writing..Anyways..

I've always been obsessed THE MATRIX TRILOGY, Kaminey is the freshobsession I have..

Rating : 10/10 (Deserves every bit of it!)

Vishal Bharadwaj has done it again. After tense stories of Maqbool &Omkaara, he takes a deliberate take away from Shakespeare and deliversinstead an awesome dark and twisted tale of two brothers each with hisown share of mess to take care of, not to mention their speechimpediments that provide some great sounding dialog to the audience anddepth to the characters.

The film does not try to emulate one as the good brother and the othergone wrong. That's not what the director wants to show.

One brother knocks up a Don's sister unknowingly (the buildup to thisis awesome) and the other one chances upon a guitar full of cocaine.Asthe plot thickens, both the brothers must gets their hands on the samecocaine to save their lives. Then, the director takes on a joyridethrough the shanty towns of Mumbai.

The film has strong overtones of the current issues in Mumbai politicsand a leading lady in Priyanka Chopra, who is very much representativeof present day Indian girl. She is no arm candy, she has a pivotal roleand takes the film to its climax. A climax that drags on with onelittle twist after another, but it is't boring. by the end of it, youwould want another.

The music is very good and does not interfere with the pace of thefilm. Gulzar has again delivered deep meaning lyrics that are more insync with the film's theme than with classic poetry.

There are a lot of characters to take care of in the film and it's easyto lose to track, but none is less important than the other. Each onehas a defined part and is intertwined in the destinies of Guddu &Charlie. It does remind you of Guy Ritchie films like Lock, Stock & TwoSmoking Barrels etc but it is in no way an imitation of such works. Itis a complete masterwork in its own right.

With Jab We Met, Shahid Kapur showed that he can carry a film on hisown, Kaminey shows that that two of him are better than one. He playsboth his parts with such panache that its hard to see that its the sameactor. This could well be the point when he lands more serious rolesand less of the boy next door.

The film is dark with everybody fighting for survival but thepresentation is such that you do feel for the people in it but can'thelp but sadistically laugh at them. that is what Bhardwaj has beenable to achieve with Kaminey which very few directors in India canmanage to.

Definitely one of the best works of contemporary Indian cinema.

You can't believe how much anticipation I had for this movie(I lovedAwarapan, also a gangster movie). This movie passed each expectation.Amazing songs(especially the title track and Dhan Te Nan), enthrallingaction, mind-blowing story, shocking performances(in a good way), andan ecstatic execution through and through. Shahid's performance alongwith Priyanka's, Amole Gupte's and everyone's performance make mespeechless. They all fit in their roles. Shahid as Charlie steals theshow. Priyanka looked her best in Dostana, but she looks angelic withno makeup(and still hot).

What I liked about the movie: Shahid, Priyanka, Amole, action, run-outof the mill songs(especially the ones mentioned above), photography.

What I didn't like about the movie: Too short, like Awarapan. Come on,135 minutes? What about 150, at least?!

The much awaited Vishal Bharadwaj's 'Kaminey' finally hit cinemascreens and it does not disappoint! The primary thing that you willnotice and appreciate in the movie is the acting. From the maincharacters Charlie and Guddu ( identical twins played by Shahid Kapoor) till the supporting actors, everyone manages to impress you. Specialmention would go to Priyanka Chopra, who plays Guddu's love interestSweety, who nails the role to perfection.

The movie shows the parallel lives of identical twins Guddu and Charliewho detest each other and haven't seen each other in years but howcircumstances lead them to face each other. The plot is gripping, theacting is flawless, the setting is dark and the direction is slick.Probably the only thing that could have been better is the ending.Though the ending wasn't bad, I guess I had a little more expectationshoping for something darker or unexpected. But all in all a fun movienot to be missed!

We've seen so much of the RGV stuff about " Jai Maharashtra" and thestyle. plus, talk about 'judwa' movies .. There are things which mightmake you feel there's something familiar what Kaminey offers. NOT.

Well, attempting a dark comedy is difficult, especially about mafia(that too in the settings of maharashtra). The movie is a dark comedy, with an adventurous plot and an action setting. The movie almostachieves what it wants to. its brilliant in execution, with somefreelance direction and good screenplay. the story revolves aroundparallel tracks of brothers wanting to live their own lives, butthey're bound to collide. The storytelling warps in the movie where wewitness a normal movie and then suddenly so much happens that you feelike rewinding back. The pace is varying and there is something to keepyou edged on your seat. And the final scene comes similar to "lock, stock and 2 smoking barrels", in an Indian environment, really perfect, spotless direction.

The direction just in-phase with the contemporary age of experimentalcinema. we see perfect lighting for the scenes and low shots in themovies. the songs are nice, too. the movie in whole is a great watchfor people who have the taste of seeing action or adventure scripts. Anice movie, watch it.

Shahid's acting is good, limited in his roles but very methodical.priyanka tries a kareena of JWM (or the asin of Ghajini, for thatmatter) and plays it smoothly. However, editing the viewer with a lostfeeling sometimes. There are certain potholes scattered throughout themovie, which could have either explained or avoided, at least. and yes,the movie seems a little predictable sometimes, but its maximumcriticism it deserves. go on experimenting Bollywood ! o ya, n i reallywonder why it got A certificate .. there is nothing A about it..

The most eagerly awaited movie of the year is finally out. The goodpart is that it lives up to its expectations. Vishal Bharadwaj deliversanother one in his list of what can be definitely called as the new ageIndian cinema.

The movie is smart, witty, dark, and funny all at the same time. It isone roller coaster ride that leaves you gasping for breath. It demandsso much out of you as a viewer that one can't really afford to missanything. You blink and it's gone.

The story is fast paced and the script is rock solid. The charactershave been chalked out well where each actor gets his / her space todeliver and deliver they do. Where Shahid Kapur delivers one of hisbest performances till date, the new faces in the movie are thesurprise elements. They deliver their part with such panache thatleaves you spellbound.

However, it is truly a director's movie. Vishal has, like his previousventures, taken movie making in India to a different level andrespected the modern audience who have moved ahead from the run of themill trash to a more practical / sensible work.

Without giving anything away from the movie, recommend you to watch itto believe it. Watch it for the Director who respects the sensibilityof his audience, watch it for the actors who deliver an earnestperformance, watch its for its dark , subtle humor, watch it to bethoroughly entertained.

Kaminey is a latest off track bollywood movie. Since its a off-trackmany may just don't like the way its presented to the audience. Thefilm is about human nature and the way world treats people. If you arepoor, if you are uneducated you are lost in this world of selfishnessand power. You need to grow up in this world.

Saheed Kapoor in his double role has acted superb. His performance isadorable and I now like him much more than before. Its a bollywoodmovie with some sort of Hollywood taste. Its out off movie. A fastpaced movie with lots of laughter & humor.

If you love gangster movie and deserve some new taste just watch thismovie. A must for fans of Saheed Kapoor.
