Apple knows the streets, alleys and motels like the back of her hand but wants more from her life. She possesses a tenacious, tough, indomitable spirit, and will not surrender to fate. Apple runs away from her mother and tracks down her father whom she has never known, as he was only 19 when he got Apple’s mother pregnant. Apple begs her now Wall Street Broker father, Tom Fitzpatrick (Brendan Fraser), to take her in. In the few days under her father’s care, she learns she’s become pregnant by a kid from the streets she met on the train, who now wants nothing to do with her. She is forced to leave her father’s home because of her choice to give birth to the baby she is carrying. Apple runs away again, and is eventually taken under the wing of Father … Written byMAriyah

Vanessa was really amazing in this film! It completely shocked me howgood she really was, I wasn't expecting her acting to blow me out ofthe water, but she did. Her performance really made the film for me,with this and the frozen ground I see her going places. Not only herbut the whole cast was really strong. It was a heart wrenchingstoryline which, delivered by these amazing and strong actors justempowered me I guess. I was really looking forward to watching this asI thought the story line was unique and not cliché and unlike anythingI've watched before. Also the fact that it was based in a true storyjust interested me all the more to watch it and I can honestly say thatI was not disappointed! I would highly recommend anyone and everyone towatch it! It's a brilliant story with a brilliant cast but Vanessaeasily outshines the rest of the cast, this is her film.

Gimme Shelter is a touching and moving film, so inspirational that Ithink people will want to buy more and more tickets to see it. Eventhough a low budget film, Vanessa Hudgens is stunning on herperformance as Apple. She proves that she has completely left heramateur puppy Disney HSM acting and moved on to bigger future rolesthat will certainly give her a lot of career options, maybe an Oscartoo. And why not? In Gimme Shelter, Vanessa Hudgens, as an actress, portrays all the emotions and characteristics that the Academy of Artswant to see. I wont be surprised if I see Hudgens taking at least anomination for her stunning, breath taking performance. Gimme shelter,in general, is an indie film that captures all the phases of adifficult life in the streets of a city. Maybe a little bit of 8 Mileor Precious, Gimme shelter reminds a bit of these films, but the motionpicture still keeps its originality of story and of courseperformances.

Last night, I saw a screening of the movie "Gimme Shelter" whichreleases on the 24th. I highly recommend it. It is a very goodinspirational movie of which only immature males wouldn't appreciateit. None the less, it is valuable training for them, even though it isnot all action. The subject matter may sound less than interesting, butit was done excellently, morally inspiring and has a happy ending tothis true story about a girl who was (or wasn't raised) by a druggiemother and "Clinton's village" of government subsidized foster homes. The acting was superb. The story starts out with the cynical tough-girljaded pregnant 16 year old runaway finding her biological father andeventually leads to a happy ending, inspiring the audience to bemorally upright. Women in the audience cried. Go yourself and take yourloved ones. And as a pastor, I do recommend this to children 6 yearsold and up as a great teaching opportunity for parents. I alsorecommend "Gimme Shelter" for churches, political groups and actiongroups.

This movie is quite believable and Hudgens does a great job, havingactually lived in a real shelter prior to playing the part. I think shegained a great deal of understanding doing that and it shows in herpart. There are some folks reviewing the movie here who referred to hergoing through "Clinton's Village" subsidized programs, which misses thepoint of Clinton's Village. Her theory was not based on subsidized govtprograms, rather the need for community and all of us to take aninterest in helping our neighbors, our schools and to be aware of thefolks around us who are either lost or having a tough time. I foundthat review a slap in the face of the movie and hate to see how youpreach in your church as a pastor. Another review mentioned that womenand girls should see this. EVERYONE, not least of all MEN should watchthis movie. This Wallstreet dad might have behaved differently had heknown what his daughter went through until she sought out a better lifeby finding him. Who knows? Sorry for the rants, but needed to callfolks out on some attitudes. perhaps the mother would not have turnedto prostitution to survive. Many prostitutes are so desperate tosupport their kids and it is the only thing they feel they can make iton because of a lack of "Village help" and support of two parents. Thenthey turn to drugs in order to tolerate the abuse and exploitation ofprostitution. It is a vicious cycle and one that mostly affects teenmoms and kids with low self-esteem. The system does not sufficientlypush dad's role and if more men saw this movie, perhaps they wouldthink twice about abandoning the needs of their children, whetherplanned or unplanned. I find the sexist attitude of folks so absurd.Take responsibility and stop giving the dads a pass!

I have never seen Vanessa before but after watching Gimme Shelter I ama fan. This was a very hard movie to watch all the actors did a greatJob on making feel so real. There was not one angle or part where Ithought this moving was lacking something. Everyone involved did agreat job. I was on the edge of my seat and filled with emotion thewhole time. I would say Vanessa is Oscar worthy but really I think shedid better then any Oscar winner and its not good enough for her or themovie. The movie grabbed me within the first ten minuets never leavingme with a dull moment. I would like to see more true stories like thisand I am looking forward to Vanessa's next film.

Gimme Shelter is a refreshing and uplifting story about a pregnant teenwho flees her abusive mother and finds friends and support in a shelterfor young unwed moms. The story is refreshing because it comes acrossas sympathetic to the pro-life side, and it actually presents the teenmom's father as a compassionate and decent person. So often Hollywooddenigrates dads and redeems the flawed mom, but this movie,to itscredit, takes a different and unusual approach. Good performances byVanessa Hudgens,Brendan Fraser, James Earl Jones, and Ann Dowd reallymake this movie a satisfying experience. I hope a lot of people see iteven though it doesn't take the easy predictable path that's socharacteristic of mainstream Hollywood productions.

      i was expecting a tear-jerker and i got one.

the movie follows 16yr old Apple on her journey to find hope and peaceand she finds it in an unlikely place. Vanessa Hudgens' portrayal ofApple was tender and touching and over-the-top at times but still verymoving – and believable. Rosario Dawson appeared in a way i've neverseen, not just physically, but so emotionally disturbing i felt avisceral reaction when she was on screen. Brendan Fraser washeartbreakingly good in this. when I thought I would dislike hischaracter, I actually ended up loving him. the rare glimpse of JamesEarl Jones was like a balm in this emotional whirlwind. everyone playedso well.

i went to see this with mom and girlfriends. i recommend it highly forgirls' nights out or group bonding of any kind. it is a special filmabout a special group of people in our world. well done.

This movie felt like a Lifetime Movie (and I don't mean that in adisrespectful way) — it just seemed more like a made for TV movie. That being said, I did enjoy it. I think the acting was pretty good;stellar job by Vanessa. It was a true story and it did pull me in, butdid not blow me away. I am glad that this movie made it to the bigscreen and would recommend it to others. As a social worker, I amalways interested in stories such as this and enjoy seeing the"underdog" come out on top. I personally didn't see any politicalagenda with this movie and didn't consider it to have a "pro-life"message. I just think it was the true story of a young girl who wasborn into a bad situation and struggled to find love and peace.

I love this movie. Story and acting by the whole cast were superb. You'll never be the same after watching this movie and I can say thisonly of a handful of movies. It will change your perspective on thereality and the suffering of child abuse, but also it will lift you upand give you a lot of hope in Life. As the end titles were scrolling Ifound myself "nailed" to my seat, deeply moved, enjoying the beautifulsoundtrack by Celine Dion and the pictures of the real protagonists ofthe story and not wanting to leave.

Go. Watch this movie, it will be the best time and money you will spendtoday.
